It is official, you all love reading my Umthunzi Blog ☺. It is so pleasing to see that information translates through to what my digital team are calling “clicks and opens”.
All fancy talk but in the end, I am happy that I can keep you updated with the hotel and my news. So before I head to Umkomaas and play in my monthly Nomads Game where Umthunzi is the day sponsor (providing a much needed Lamb on the Spit roll and cold Stella Artois beer as players finish their 18 holes), I thought I would take some time and put thoughts to paper.
For those of you on social media, you would have noticed that a furry animal you might have met whilst here visiting us is trending. Thunzi, our hotel cat, is becoming famous. Our front office ladies adore him and have put a collar on him, made him a warm space in the office where he believes he is the office boss. He can often be seen enjoying the comfort of one of their laps whilst they are attending to work, or just popping in to say hello. Thunzi loves his catnip-filled mouse and has gotten under my feet when I have popped in, chasing it around the office. Guests love him too!
My family news: the “Whys” have arrived at my house. Everything is questioned and if the answer is not acceptable then you hear it again! Braedyn has such an enquiring mind and already is telling his mom and dad how things should be, versus how we feel they are!
Some hotel news: we hosted our Mexican themed evening on the Friday 24th November and it was a roaring success. It was a great evening and our Chilli Challenge table had people wishing that they had put the toilet paper in the freezer before coming to the event!
Christmas Day Lunch is already full. For those of you who have not made a booking, we are terribly sorry. You will need to be faster off the mark next year as it is so popular. But, not to worry, you will be able to do one of 2 things: book with us for our Mediterranean New Year’s Eve Dinner Dance where we have a very talented singer performing for us, or watch the delicious Christmas Lunch on social media ☺ We suggest the New Year bash is a better option?
We are also proud to announce that we have once again secured the “Best Function Venue” Readers’ Choice award. Thank you so much for all your votes and support! If the bookings for Year End Functions, regular Business Meetings, successful Conferences and beautiful Weddings are the measure, then we are happy to continue to strive for greatness and ensure we offer you all what you deserve and continue to be the best!
We are also almost finished with the restaurant roof garden. It will be very different for those who have stayed with us before but our thoughts are to create a little green and relaxed area in the middle of the hotel. So this is something different, and I look forward to hearing your thoughts on it during your next stay.
The Boating news I mentioned in my last blog: Congratulations to Cornel for passing his Skippers ☺ I was informed the pass mark was set at 60% and you will be happy to know that he achieved more than 80%! So you will be in his safe hands when you are on the boat, and, to be honest, I need a few volunteers to test his ability. I’ll have whiskey for any shot nerves afterward or even better, some chilled white wine to pair with the freshly caught fish!
On the Golfing front, I must say the batten is comfortably in Kim’s hands. In Swaziland, I won the golden matchbox for the South African team and if you think, “wow”, you are right. I was the worst player for the whole South African team! And when I thought it couldn’t get any worse, I then returned to SA to win the Crying Towel at my home course on the monthly Nomads Game It has got a bit better, so don’t get too sad. However, this would be the time to take a bet against me and get some of the money back you have lost to me over the years.
